Vince Gilligan Discloses He Has an Idea of How His Sci-Fi Series Will Conclude... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that Pluribus would emerge as a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

As the debut season of the hit sci-fi show wrapping up—and the next chapter already in development—Gilligan and his team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will shape the future direction of Pluribus.

Regarding the Incredible Fan Response

Anyone might to get swayed by the constant speculation and online debates about Pluribus. He is striving to ignore the noise.

“The experience is akin to constantly eating hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he explains. “It's the greatest thing, but I get wind of it anecdotally, and that's by design. Never in my life Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be never leaving the house from Home Depot and I'd be stuck in my living room.”

Regardless of his concerted efforts, there’s it's impossible to ignore the overwhelmingly positive response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to take it in stride and try not to let it dictate the story of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by online forums.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan concludes.

The Central Mystery: Will the creator Know the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team aren’t being guided by fan response, does that mean they already know how Pluribus will reach its endpoint? In short yes… with some caveats.

“There are some interesting ideas about how the story could conclude,” he states. “however, we remain prepared to discard a good idea for a superior concept. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We throw stuff out when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if plans fall through, director and writer Gordon Smith has a pretty funny idea to use as a backup.

“I keep pitching that the entire story is inside a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and that's where they've been all along,” Smith jokes, “but no one is buying it.”

Then again, why not reference the iconic TV endings?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
