The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Selected the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track
This latest animated series, the newest animated adventure from Critical Role, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues kicking ass and taking names, while teasing at several heart-wrenching backstories for characters such as the voice actor's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's orc warlock, the character Fjord.
Overall, the opening appears amazing. But I couldn't help feeling that something was lost in the music selection.
The intro employs "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar composition composed by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece originating from the official score of that title, the second one put out by the production company's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great sentimental option, and I suspect that devotees of the sequel series will appreciate its inclusion.
But for me, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and energy that accompanied the second campaign's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in that year, and it improved further when co-founder the performer wrote words to the melody for the series' animated intro in the later year.
Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the track was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my device. It's a song that excites you before you dive into an installment of adventurous fun.
The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords in my opinion. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its mood is somewhat mismatched.
Of course, Critical Role has stated that the series will have a few surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. An adjusted mood for its opening appears as one of them.
The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on the streaming service from November 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to get to know the characters of the second series, the actual play are available on Spotify and YouTube.
