The Latest Relaxed Playlist Ignites Intense Debates Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Wait Times
Over the weekend, the game developers launched a new game mode titled Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this option mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes a few key adjustments:
- Every squad has only 8 human participants, with the rest made up of 32 bots.
- Actions done by human gamers award full XP, while AI activities offer lower rewards.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Features like Dogtags, achievements, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its title: it offers a laid-back take of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, as it provides more options for players looking for different methods to have fun with the title. However, gaming history has shown one thing, it is that not everyone will be happy. Which is to say, a lot of Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Player Reactions: Anger to Support
"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the errors of your competitors," reads a response to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, improve hit detection. We don't need this bot mode."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's very fun to practice, real players prevent it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," states another. One reply via social media explains that as they're "a battledad with limited time, this is great for me," while another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Player Feedback
Despite the support, players have constructive reasons to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make queue times more extended for different playlists because of the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, some areas often face mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of human gamers, even though it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to remove bot farms from the mode. Thus Casual Breakthrough feels like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per a Reddit comment. Another labels this mode as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something to date with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. It is likely that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
