The former Liverpool manager says a return to manage Liverpool is conceivable.
The German coach, who stepped down from Anfield in 2024, indicated that a future comeback remains something that could happen. Klopp, after a transformative nine-year spell that included a European Cup triumph and the Premier League crown in 30 years, currently occupies positions as head of global soccer for Red Bull and as an advisor with the German Football League.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
They secured the Premier League under Arne Slot, yet numerous supporters who revere Klopp would be thrilled by the idea that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he explained to his interviewer: “I said I will never coach another team within the country. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...yeah. Theoretically it’s possible.”
“I’m 58, so I could make the decision in a few years, who knows. Must I choose now? In that case, I'd stay away. Fortunately, it's not necessary. I'll wait and observe what lies ahead.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Questioned regarding the specific conditions would need to occur to tempt his return to the dugout, he confessed he isn't eager to such a return. “I don’t even know exactly, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “No longing for management; I avoid standing under bad weather for lengthy sessions; I'm glad to skip interviews four times, three times a week or having 10-12 interviews a week.
“The locker room isn't missed per se, but sitting in a restaurant with the team enjoying conversation, that’s nice. Success was frequent so there was often positive atmosphere at the club. I still have the captain's chuckle vividly recalled to illustrate.”
Commending Arne Slot
Klopp was full of praise of the current boss, praising him due to the changes that won the league last term. Liverpool have lost four in a row in all competitions after a summer spending spree, yet he dismissed the suggestion that it might signal a slump.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. Ekitike, incredible player. This is a well-built well-judged squad. You don’t have to worry over the club, they will be fine.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
Klopp also spoke emotionally regarding the passing of Jota, whom he brought in in 2020, along with the consequences on Liverpool. Jota died tragically in a road accident with his brother in July.
“Can you substitute a person like him? This isn't just regarding the player himself, it’s the guy he was. It's hard to picture the dressing room missing him. I find it difficult to discuss about it. A devastating blow for the entire squad also. Not a single person might employ it for poor performances though it's a fact. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Coping with it individually is difficult. Overwhelming.”
