Music Legend Barry Manilow to Undergo Surgery for a Lung Cancer Diagnosis.

The singer has disclosed that he has been diagnosed with a cancerous growth in his lung and will undergo an operation.

Spot Found in Initial Phase

The legendary 82-year-old artist, famous for his series of beloved anthems from "I Write the Songs" cemented his status as one of pop music’s cherished showmen, will have an operation to take out a section of lung tissue in an effort to treat the condition, which is at an early phase.

“As many of you know, I recently endured six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks.

“Although I was over the bronchitis and returned to the spotlight in Las Vegas, my attentive medical team requested an MRI just to be certain that there were no issues.

“The MRI identified a tumor on my left side that must be removed. It’s incredible chance (and a fantastic physician) that it was discovered so early.”

Rescheduled Shows

He has rescheduled a number of upcoming live performances, but suggested he would be on stage again by mid-February for his long-running engagement at his Vegas home.

He added: “The physicians do not believe it has traveled and I’m taking tests to confirm their diagnosis. So, that’s it. No chemo. No radiation. Just chicken soup and classic TV.

“I’m looking forward to until I come back to my home away from home for our Vegas run for our special weekend performances.”

Professional and Personal Journey

Manilow is now in the 16th year of a residency in Nevada. The singer has enjoyed a career spanning many years in the spotlight and came out as gay in 2017, after marrying his manager and long-term partner confidentially in 2014.

The couple were in a clandestine partnership for in excess of 35 years. In 2023, Manilow spoke about how crucial his husband had been to him during his rise to peak fame in the 1970s.

“During my rapid rise to fame, it was just hectic. And, you know, coming home to an lonesome hotel suite, you can get into a lot of trouble if you, you know, you’re by yourself repeatedly,” he said.

“But I met Garry right around when it was exploding. And I didn’t have to go back to those empty hotel rooms. I had a person to share sorrows with or to share joys with.

“I hope that newcomers today don’t have to go back to those suites by themselves, because you can make poor choices. I never did. But it was quite isolating until I met Garry. And then it was a shared adventure.”
