On Friday midday, the thermometer reached 33 degrees Celsius (91 Fahrenheit) in downtown Los Angeles, per data from weather officials. This breaks the previous daily record for this date, which was eighty-eight degrees Fahrenheit and was set in the previous year.
"Very warm conditions" were noted on official maps for the region.

Forecasters stated that Friday's conditions posed an "increased danger for heat illness" for people sensitive to heat. Their advice suggested:
